The Devil's Needle

About this book

An Al-Azhar student encounters a being dressed as a doctor on the roof of an old house in Cairo's Al-Hussein district. The visitor carries a document called Wasaya Abi Murra. This meeting, set against a Cairo night by the Nile, begins Ahmed Al-Bayasi's literary work. Narrative and psychological dialogue come together with a perspective rooted in faith. The work considers forms of manipulation such as encouraging vanity, emotional blackmail, punitive silence, ridicule and setting people against one another.
