About this book

This book gathers the research of the first Short Story Forum organized by the Sada 'Memory of the Egyptian Short Story' website, headed by the great Egyptian writer and critic Sayed Al-Wakil, as part of the site's cultural efforts to document and preserve the heritage of Arabic short fiction in what is called the age of the novel. It was prepared by Marvet Youssef, chief editor of the website. Great works begin with a big dream and small steps, and authentic creativity begins with an idea formed in the womb of human consciousness to become a true work. Thus began the idea of the Sada website, through an original vision of Sayed Al-Wakel, and because it was an ambitious idea, it was followed by practical steps that resonated across the Arab cultural scene. Within the ambition of the experiment and the development of its critical and creative work came the first Short Story Forum, held in Cairo for one day on August 6, 2022. This book collects the studies and papers that were the backbone of the forum: a set of studies with diverse critical perspectives, striving to chart a methodological picture of the Arabic short story in a number of Arab arenas.
