In 2053, the High Investigations Directorate is developing technologies that read memory and the electromagnetic traces of place. An experiment in an abandoned rural house tears open an unexpected passage through time, throwing two special-forces officers into India in the 1980s. Surrounded by gangs and carrying an emergency case filled with future weapons, they discover an old Indian novel that recorded their presence before their journey began.
