Ibrahim Rizk draws on the third-class trains of Upper Egypt, hospital rooms, village streets and the humiliations hidden behind polished appearances. His Egyptian colloquial verse listens to workers, travellers and people whose voices rarely pass beyond closed shutters. At once protest and consolation, the collection asks whether people truly need clearance from life, or whether life has already abandoned its obligations to them.
