Issues related to women's rights were not previously prominent on the social scene, but they have recently gained major importance, both globally, where they topped the agenda of world organizations, and locally in urban and rural Egyptian communities. This is the result of media discourse influenced by the global agenda on one hand, and the spread and increase of women's education and their going out to work, at home or abroad, on the other. All of this led to the issue of women's financial rights and their independence with a separate financial liability appearing strongly in Egyptian society.
