Life and work
About Bram Stoker
He worked in the civil service and as a theatre critic before moving to London to work with actor Henry Irving at the Lyceum Theatre. His international reputation rests on Dracula, published in 1897, a landmark of Gothic horror. He also wrote stories and novels combining adventure and mystery, including The Mystery of the Sea and The Jewel of Seven Stars. Theatre remained central to his career, and he recorded that world in his reminiscences of Irving.
