Life and work
About Mahmoud Taher Haqqi
He contributed to several Egyptian newspapers and magazines and founded al-Jarida al-Usbuʿiyya; he was also the uncle of writer Yahya Haqqi. He is especially known for The Maiden of Denshway, published in 1906 after the Denshway incident, connecting fiction with a contemporary event and rural lives. Its accessible language and attention to the trial and punishments brought the episode close to readers. The English title matches the catalogue work, while the author’s contribution must remain distinct from the edition’s translator credit.
