About this book

Layl, an elderly woman shaped by long experience, is struck by a car driven by a younger woman named Hayat. When Layl wakes in hospital and encounters Hayat's remorse, repeated names, phrases and disappointments begin to suggest a connection deeper than coincidence. The novel explores the many selves a woman inhabits—daughter, wife, mother and the identity lost beneath expectation. Moving through mystery and psychological reflection, it asks whether people are condemned to repeat inherited mistakes or can receive a second chance through one another.
