About this book

Set in the old Persian village of Lavar, this historical verse play follows a broad community that includes scholars, servants, merchants, elders, and children. At its center are Jamal Al-Din and Othman, learned leaders of the Huwala, alongside families whose lives are altered by displacement. Asmaa Saud uses their intertwined stories to portray Muslims repeatedly forced to migrate and to examine what exile takes from identity, memory, and belonging.
